You add a booking button to your Google Business Profile by opening your profile, choosing Booking, selecting Add link and pasting the URL of the page where customers actually pick a time. If you already use a scheduling tool that partners with Google, you can connect it instead, and customers may be able to book without leaving Google at all.
I run a wellness center here in Charlottesville, so I know how much easier the week gets when people book themselves instead of playing phone tag. This works for far more than salons and clinics: a pottery studio filling a Saturday class, a dog groomer, a tutoring center, a restaurant taking reservations, or an HVAC company that lets people choose a tune-up window. Here is how to set it up and how to avoid the mistakes that get links pulled.
Where do I add a booking link on Google?
You add it from the Booking section of your Business Profile, either from Google Search or from the Google Maps app. It takes about two minutes once you know the URL you want to use.
According to Google's help page on managing your local business links, the steps are:
- Sign in to the Google account that manages your profile and search for your business name, or open Google Maps.
- On Search, select Booking. On Maps, select Edit profile, then Booking.
- Select Add link, or Add another link if one is already there.
- Paste the URL of your booking page and select Save.
The same page explains how to set a preferred link, which shows at the top marked as Business preferred. That matters because Google and its partners can add third-party links to your profile automatically, and you want customers landing on the system you actually check.
One catch: Google says these links are not available through the Business Profile API or spreadsheet upload, so they have to be added by hand on each profile.
Does my business have to be verified first?
Yes. Google's business links policies state that your business must be verified before you can add a link.
If you do not see the Booking option, verification is the first thing to check. Our walkthrough on how to verify your Google Business Profile covers the methods and what to do if someone else controls the listing. The same policy page also notes that eligibility for link types varies by business type and by country, so your category plays a part. If your category is off, read how to choose the right Google Business Profile category before you spend time troubleshooting the button.
What kind of page should the link go to?
It should go straight to a page where a customer can finish booking with you, for that specific location. Not your homepage, not your Facebook page and not a general contact form.
Google's links policy is specific here. A few rules that trip owners up:
- Dedicated page only. Google asks you to avoid general landing pages or a page for another location of the same business. If you have a shop in Crozet and another in Waynesboro, each profile needs its own booking link.
- The action has to be completable. The page must let customers actually book, not just read about booking.
- No social, messaging or shortened links. Social media sites, messaging links, app store links and link shorteners are not allowed.
- Google has to be able to load it. The page cannot require a login or CAPTCHA for Google's checker, cannot return errors like a 404, and must fully load.
- One link per domain. If two links share a domain, Google may drop the newer one, and exact duplicates are rejected.
Google says it checks links with automated tools and manual review and may remove links that do not comply. So if your button quietly disappears, a broken or blocked booking page is the most likely reason.
Can customers book without leaving Google?
Sometimes. If your scheduling software is a Reserve with Google partner, you can connect it so bookings happen inside Search or Maps, but that is only available in certain countries and with supported providers.
Google's Reserve with Google overview says the feature is only available for businesses that work with a supported scheduling provider. To connect one, Google's help page on setting up bookings through a provider says to open your profile, select Bookings, then Get started, pick your provider and select Done. Google says the provider will show up on your profile within a week.
On cost, the same page says Google does not charge for this, but your provider might. Check your plan before you flip it on.
If your scheduler is not a partner, a regular booking link works fine. Customers tap through to your booking page and finish there.
What should I do today?
Start with what you already have. Most owners do not need new software, just a cleaner path from Google to a booked appointment.
- Find your direct booking URL. Open your scheduling tool and copy the public link that shows available times, ideally for one location.
- Test it on your phone. Open it in a private browser window. If it asks you to log in or loads slowly, fix that first.
- Add it to your profile using the steps above and set it as your preferred link.
- Remove what you do not use. If an old provider shows up under Booking, select Remove Provider. Google says providers have to remove third-party links within 5 days of a removal request.
- Match your website. Put the same booking link on your homepage and contact page so people get one consistent path.
- Check monthly. Tap your own button from Google Maps once a month to make sure it still works.
For businesses where most customers still call, like plumbers or restaurants on a Friday night, the booking button is a second door, not a replacement. Make sure calls get answered too, whether by your team or by an AI receptionist that can text a booking link to callers.
Can someone set this up for me?
Yes. If you would rather not wrestle with booking URLs and profile settings, this is part of the local SEO work we do at STANDBY. We connect your profile, your website and your scheduler so they all point to the same place, and we can add automated reminders and follow-up so booked customers actually show up.
Common questions
Why don't I see a Booking option on my profile?
Usually because the profile is not verified yet, or your category or country is not eligible for booking links. Verify first, then check that your primary category fits what you sell.
Can I link to my Facebook or Instagram booking page?
No. Google's links policy does not allow social media sites, messaging links, app store links or link shorteners as local business links. Use your scheduler's direct booking page or a booking page on your own website.
Why did my booking link disappear?
Google may remove links that break its rules or that its checker cannot load, such as pages that return errors, require a login or are geoblocked. Fix the page, re-add the link, and request a review through Google's contact page if you think it was removed in error.
