How many local businesses actually pick up the phone?
STANDBY Local is running a simple study: calling Charlottesville and Albemarle County small businesses at lunchtime and after hours, and logging what a caller experiences. Results will be published here once the first round is complete.
How the study works
Simple, repeatable and fair.
- Who we call: publicly listed local service businesses, using the phone number on their Google Business Profile or website.
- When: a weekday lunch-hour call and an after-hours call to each business.
- What we log: answered live, voicemail, text-back, rang out or disconnected, plus whether a voicemail asked for the caller's name and number.
- What we never do: publish individual business names, leave messages or book anything.
Results
Results coming soon. We will post the totals, the method and the date range here, with every number traceable to our call log.
